‘Criminal Minds: Evolution’ Ending After its 20th Season (aka Season 5) on Paramount+

We have our first casualty with the newly set HBO-led Skydance DTC. Criminal Minds: Evolution will end again after its 20th season.

Per Deadline, the cancellation was unexpected, as the old regime gave the series an early renewal while season 19 was airing and was championing its success. The series ranked in the Top 10 on Paramount+ throughout its run while new episodes aired. But the cancellation was likely due to production costs, given that the show is a continuation of the CBS procedural and that contracts could become pricier.

“It’s hard to put into words what Criminal Minds has meant to all of us who have been fortunate enough to be part of this extraordinary journey, first on CBS for 15 seasons and then on Paramount+ for five,” longtime showrunner Erica Messer said. “While suddenly navigating the end of this chapter, I’m filled with gratitude for our remarkable cast, writers, directors and crew who have poured their hearts into this show, and for the incredible fans around the world whose unwavering loyalty has kept Criminal Minds going for two decades. We’re looking forward to sharing Season 20 with everyone, and celebrating the legacy of this special show we’ve all built together.”

The series recently ended production for the season, so there won’t be a proper conclusion. Criminal Minds: Evolution stars Joe Mantegna, A.J. Cook, Kirsten Vangsness, Aisha Tyler, and RJ Hatanaka, with Adam Rodriguez and Paget Brewster.
